January 12, 2021 Meeting

Date: January 12, 2021
Place: Fountain Green General Store, 84 S Main Fountain Green, UT
Time: 6:30 p.m.

We had a big meeting this month. I think that will be our January meeting from year to year: A lot of big decisions.

Direction For Word Addicts

We had a whirlwind year last year with huge changes and big goals.  As the dust has settled, here's the direction we've found:

We have our local Word Addicts and our expanded group of Word Addicts. We will have our local meetings where we conduct writing exercises and give feedback, etc...Then we will have our expanded group who will participate in our anthology. This will include local and non-local writers. The expanded anthology group will do all of its work online through messaging apps, email, Google Docs, Google Meet, etc...

Election: Nominations were made, and seconded, and affirmed by those present. James presided over the meeting and the election was held near the end.

President: Jenna Madsen
Vice-president: Ray Truitt
Secretary: James Mitchell
Lawrence Gardner remains treasurer.

Anthology: Miscellany 2021

We will follow the same timeframes as last year.  More info will come very soon.

James will send a signup form. At this time we are inviting specific individuals to submit, and all submissions will be accepted. Everyone must agree to rigorous editing and some ground rules.

Each writer will choose a literary theme and write a story within that theme.  We chose the common thread for each story by tossing ideas in a hat and choosing one: Each story must contain an old cottage somewhere in it. Stay tuned for the signup form for details.

Miscellaneous

Lawrence has a retail space and said Word Addicts can use it as a retail space for books by our writers. He would like a 10% consignment for sales.  Jenna recommended a Venmo account. We'll talk over the next month and look at the possibilities.

Action Items

James will create an anthology signup sheet and we'll get to work on this year's anthology!

August 2021 Meeting

Here are the meeting minutes and reminders from our August meeting. It was a fantastic meeting. I really loved it and I’m so thankful to those that came and contributed! It was really one of the good ones!! (Did I make those of you who couldn’t come jealous yet? - I’ll fill you in on what you missed ;) Carin started our meeting with a lesson on her experience with the book “The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron. It was very inspirational and Carin did such a wonderful job of connecting creativity with our life and our spirits and our connection to a higher power. She conveyed her feelings about how creativity is innate in us and by cultivating it and releasing it we can improve so much about ourselves and our lives. This is a very watered down version of her lesson so I hope I am doing an okay job of explaining it. I’ll send a pic of her handout below. If you are feeling blocked in someway creatively, “The Artist’s Way” has been recommended by a few group members so it is probably wo...

Meeting To Discuss Expansion To Non-local Members

We held a special meeting tonight due to the fact that several non-local writers have expressed interest in joining Word Addicts.  Word Addicts was formed in 2015 when Allison Brown asked a few friends to get together and talk about writing.  Two years later we released our first anthology, and we continued to meet monthly. We released a second anthology in 2018.  In late 2019 and early 2020 we reorganized, took on the name Word Addicts, created a website and blog, began a social media campaign. Until now we've been a local group living within a few miles of each other.  Tonight we held a meeting to address how we might expand as a group. We are excited to expand this way. We want to partner with writers everywhere and learn from them, benefit from their knowledge and talents, and enjoy our mutual support.   What do we currently offer members: Opportunities to give and receive feedback on writing. Once-monthly video conferences to discuss writing, receive...

April 13 Meeting

I am kind of doing the walk of shame with this email - I completely forgot to send it after the meeting! But it was really great and we missed all those who couldn’t make it. Here’s a quick recap of the meeting: James read a poem and it was wonderful. Lawrence gave us a lesson on writing as it pertains to a visual piece of art and what to think about as you create art. And we went over everyone’s goals. Also, we met Zoe for the first time - welcome Zoe! For next month Ray and Natalie are going to share something with us as it pertains to their monthly goal and we can’t wait for them to share it with us! Natalie is bringing a Demi board and Ray is bringing a cover art for us to see. James has accepted the assignment of teaching the group in May.  Monthly goals:  Ray - bring one cover art for us to see.  Amy J - Finish rewrite and complete a blog post Natalie - bring a Demi board Homer - 4 songs typed up by next month  Marla - next short story subject James - ro...
